Reactive clay
Adelaide sits on reactive soils, particularly Keswick Clay, black earth and some red-brown earth. Clay shrinks as it dries in summer and swells in winter, and that movement works at the joints of buried pipe.
Old earthenware
Earthenware pipe lasts a long time but is more brittle than plastic, so it cracks, and it has a joint every short length. Adelaide’s older suburbs still drain through plenty of it.

How soon can you come?

What does it cost to clear a drain?
We confirm the visit charge when you book. Once we’ve found the cause, you get the price of the clearing or the repair before any work starts, so every item is agreed first.
Why is water coming up through the outside gully?
The overflow gully outside is there to let a blocked sewer spill outside rather than inside. Water at its grate usually means the main drain is blocked further down. Stop running water and call us.
Can you clear tree roots from a drain?
Yes. A drain machine cuts roots out of the line and a high-pressure jetter flushes it clean. If roots keep coming back, a camera inspection shows the joint they’re getting in at, so the fix lasts.
