Glenunga

A leafy postwar triangle

Glenunga is a rough triangle 5 km south-east of the city, framed by Portrush Road, Glen Osmond Road, Windsor Road and Conyngham Street. Farming began here in the 1840s, but it only became a residential suburb after World War II. The backyard Hills Hoist was invented here. Glenunga has one main park, Glenunga Reserve, yet its streets are very leafy. In 2021, 67.5% of its homes were separate houses.

Postwar houses were given earthenware or early plastic drains, and those pipes are now well over half a century old. With so many trees along the streets and in back gardens, roots are the first thing we look for at a cracked or loose joint. Adelaide's reactive clay moves with the seasons too, working old joints apart. We clear the line, inspect it on camera when you need to know more, and repair it.

  • On a postwar house, the outside overflow gully usually sits by the laundry or kitchen wall. Keep its grate clear and visible, so a backup shows itself before it reaches inside.
  • Keep wipes and fat out of the drains. A pipe this age has rough joints that catch them.
  • If a street tree or a big garden tree stands over the drain line, tell us when you book. Roots are our first suspect.
