Stony ground in the foothills

Stonyfell is a foothills suburb whose name means barren high ground. The first quarry in the Hundred of Adelaide opened here in 1837, and vines and olive groves followed. Homes came later: one old estate was subdivided in 1926 and again in 1976. Stonyfell Creek rises on the suburb's eastern edge, and a strip of reserve follows Second Creek. In 2021, 93.8% of homes were separate houses and 56.1% had four or more bedrooms.

Stony, sloping ground makes for long drain runs that are hard to dig, and big homes send plenty through them. Established gardens put roots into the joints of older pipe. In winter, stormwater rushes down the slopes into pits and downpipes, carrying silt and leaves with it. We clear the line, inspect it on camera, and repair what's damaged.
