Between the scrub, the reef and the Washpool

Aldinga Beach is about 41 km south of the city, an outer suburb in the City of Onkaparinga with its own post office since 1960. The Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park, with its sand dunes, sand blows and coastal scrub, takes up the southern end, and the Aldinga Reef lies offshore. Just south, the Washpool fills with winter rain. In 2021 the suburb had 10,667 residents; 90.9% of homes were separate houses and 27.5% were rented.

Coastal ground here carries a lot of sand, and it gets into outside gullies, stormwater pits and downpipe lines and settles where the pipe dips. Winter rain tests the stormwater drains hardest. Inside, fat, wipes and hair block the kitchen, toilet and shower lines that run out to the connection.
