Modbury North lies about 14 km north-east of Adelaide in the City of Tea Tree Gully, bounded by Milne, Golden Grove and Montague roads. Dry Creek runs down its eastern edge, and flows into the creek are held in the Kingfisher Wetlands, home to birds and lizards and a favourite for walks. The creek is seasonal and mostly dry in summer. Separate houses made up 95.5% of its 2,160 occupied homes at the 2021 Census.
Tea Tree Gully council grew from about 2,500 people in 1954 to almost 37,000 by 1971. A house from those growth years has a drain 50 years old or more, often earthenware, with joints at short intervals for roots to find.
