Kensington
A diagonal village on Second Creek
Kensington was surveyed in November 1838, the first village in the immediate area, and builders put up many brick homes here after the 1840s. Its streets were laid out on a diagonal to cut down crossings of Second Creek, which still runs through and under part of the suburb. Most of its many heritage-listed buildings are homes. In the 2021 Census, 42.6% of dwellings were semi-detached, row or terrace houses and townhouses, and 46.7% were rented.
Old brick homes sit on old drains: earthenware pipe laid in short lengths, with a joint at every step. The large river red gums in Borthwick Park show how well big trees grow here, and roots go looking for those joints. Row houses and townhouses often share a line, so one household's blockage can reach the next. We clear the drain, put a camera through it when you need to see inside, and repair what has failed.
- In a row house or townhouse, check whether the neighbours' drains are slow too, and tell us when you book. A shared line changes where we start.
- Keep wipes, including the 'flushable' kind, out of the toilet. An old earthenware sewer catches them at every joint.
- Renting the place out? Give us the owner or property manager who approves the work and the tenant's number for access.

Do you clear drains in Kensington?
Yes. We clear blocked drains, run camera inspections and assess pipe repairs for homes across Kensington. Tell us the street when you book.

Yes. Tell us the owner or property manager who approves the work and the tenant’s contact for access, and we book a time that suits the tenant.
What does it cost to clear a drain?
We confirm the visit charge when you book. Once we’ve found the cause, you get the price of the clearing or the repair before any work starts, so every item is agreed first.
