Sellicks Beach
At the southern edge of the metro area
Sellicks Beach sits about 47 km south of the city on Aldinga Bay, bounded by Button Road, Main South Road and the coast. It began in 1925 as the Sellicks Beach Estate, a subdivision laid out by two Aldinga farmers, and was formally named in 1993. Motorbikes first raced on the sand in 1917, and vehicles still drive on the beach. In 2021 it had 2,705 residents; 97.2% of homes were separate houses and just over half were owned with a mortgage.
Here the work is the drains around the house: kitchen, bathroom and laundry lines, the outside overflow gully, downpipes and stormwater pits, and the pipe out to the connection. Beach sand and garden silt settle in outside drains, and fat and wipes block house lines. Winter brings most of the rain and tests the stormwater. We find the blockage or fault and price the fix before we start.
- If you drive on the beach, hose the sand off the car on the lawn, not over a stormwater grate, so it stays out of the pit and the pipe.
- Find your overflow gully and keep it clear of mulch and lawn. On most homes it sits outside near the laundry, kitchen or bathroom.
- Before winter, clear leaves and silt from downpipe outlets and stormwater pits, so the first heavy rain runs away from the house.
