Banksia Park
A suburb named for its banksias
Twenty kilometres north-east of the city, Banksia Park is one of Tea Tree Gully's outer suburbs, with Lower Hermitage, St Agnes and Surrey Downs on its borders. The name comes from the banksia trees once plentiful here; the first owner of the land had called it Steventon. Census figures for 2021 show a suburb made entirely of separate houses, 1,242 of them occupied, at an average of 3.4 bedrooms. Owner-occupiers hold close to nine in ten.
Next door, Surrey Downs was built up as outer-suburban housing in the 1970s. Houses of that generation often run earthenware or early PVC drains, and a roomy block means a long run from the back fixtures to the sewer connection. Adelaide's reactive clay shrinks in dry summers and swells in wet winters, working at the joints. We find out what your line is made of and what's wrong with it, then put it right.
- If your garden has banksias or other natives, their leaves, bark and cones end up in stormwater pits. Clear the pits and downpipe outlets before the winter rain.
- Paving or landscaping a big back yard? Find the drain's access points first and keep them uncovered, so the line can be cleared without lifting pavers.
- When you book, tell us which fixtures are slow and whether the trouble started after rain. It helps us tell a sewer blockage from a stormwater one.
