What the camera shows
Roots growing in at the joints of old earthenware pipe, cracks, joints that have moved apart, dips that hold water, and fat or debris built up along the wall. In newer PVC lines, it shows what got in and where.

Why Adelaide drains block

Reactive clay
Adelaide sits on reactive soils, particularly Keswick Clay, black earth and some red-brown earth. Clay shrinks as it dries in summer and swells in winter, and that movement works at the joints of buried pipe.
Old earthenware
Earthenware pipe lasts a long time but is more brittle than plastic, so it cracks, and it has a joint every short length. Adelaide’s older suburbs still drain through plenty of it.
Thirsty roots
Roots find the moisture at a cracked or open joint and grow into the pipe. A dry summer sends them looking harder.
Winter rain
Most of Adelaide’s rain falls in winter. That’s when silted stormwater lines, blocked pits and full downpipes show up.

For an older home, a home with big trees near the drain line or one with a history of blockages, yes. It shows the state of the pipe before you commit. Tell us the date you need the answer by.
Why use a camera if the drain is already cleared?
Clearing gets water moving. The camera shows why it blocked: roots at a joint, a crack, a dip that holds water or a joint that has moved. That tells you whether it needs a repair or just regular clearing.
